The ISSWSH SAR is a structured, immersive experiential program designed to expand self-awareness, clinical empathy, and cultural competency of interdisciplinary sexual health providers. Over three days, participants engage with a carefully sequenced curriculum that moves from personal exploration to clinical integration.
The program's core mission is to increase awareness of provider bias, deepen understanding of the full spectrum of human sexuality, and equip clinicians with the personal insight necessary to hold space for patients whose sexual identities, behaviors, and experiences differ from their own.
- Identify personal sexual scripts, biases, and assumptions shaped by culture, family of origin, and professional training
- Engage with diverse expressions of sexuality, including disability, asexuality, aging, neurodivergence, kink, and sex work, with curiosity rather than judgment
- Distinguish between personal discomfort and clinical harm as a guide for scope of care
- Develop language and frameworks for discussing sexuality across the lifespan with patients
- Practice somatic and reflective tools that support therapeutic presence in sexual health settings
